Score line:
Canadiens 3 – Rangers 0
Shots – Habs 32, Rangers 25
Saves – Price 25, Lundqvist 29
How it happened:
Coming into the game, it was thought to be a tremendous goaltending battle, and oh boy was it fun to watch. The first goal by the Canadiens was a broken play goal in which the shot from the point was blocked by McDonagh in front and then dropped on to the stick of Tomas Fleischmann.
The Rangers had plenty of opportunities to score but just could not find the back of the net against a Carey Price that seemed to have no weaknesses.
The second goal came in the third period from former Ranger Dale Weise. He had Lundqvist fooled, as it went five-hole, after the Canadiens had been shooting glove-side high all game long.
The third goal was an empty netter that was shot off the glass and took a Canadiens bounce to roll into the cage.
Analysis:
Rangers have hit stonewalls in the scoring department as they’ve played against two hot goalies, Hutchinson and Price. Lundqvist was certainly outdueled. If you think that you must be a Canadien. However, when you go 0 for 10 on the powerplay – that’s not a typo – of course you don’t have a chance to win. The Rangers are now 1/14 on the PPer while opponents PP % is at 29%.
After hearing AV’s presser I don’t think that I could agree more that the Rangers got “schooled.” Sure, they had their scoring chances but so did the Canadians and they seemed to be of high quality. It felt like every time the Rangers turned the puck of in the offensive zone it was a 2-on-1 or a 3-on-1.
Now I didn’t think that the Rangers would be undefeated and win every game but when you play one of the top teams in the East, you have to bring it and Find. A. Way. To. Win. Sure Price made highlight reel saves but you need to capitalize on scoring chances. It seemed like the Rangers had been out worked all over the ice and without Lundqvist the score would have been double digits.
Do the Rangers need to have their guys they pay to score – well, uh score? Of course, but don’t start with the Nash isn’t blah blah blahing. Just take a look at this chance and it seems Nash has the his usual playoff luck in the Regular Season – who knows maybe he gets it out of his system early.

The Rangers are 7th in the league for goals scored with 13, which equates to 2.6 goals a game. With “The King” between the pipes I like the Rangers chances a lot. Is it concerning that Lindberg has 4 goals and the combination of Zuc, Brass, Nash, and Stepan have 5 goals? Slightly. However, their games will pick up – or so we hope.
Of course – OF COURSE playing in Montreal – Canadiens will be Canadiens I suppose. Check out this from P.K. Subban “The Flop King” the biggest baby in all the land just going to town on Krieders head.

And then we have this gem of what some would call Price getting “Pay Back” when Krieder intentionally drove into Price’s knee 2 years ago.
